USS Oglala Being Attacked by the Japanese
Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii

The USS Oglala was a CM-4 mine layer that was sunk during the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attack it was raised and repaired and in February of 1944 it was put back into service.

At 8:00 a.m. on December 7, 1941, personnel on the USS Oglala saw Japanese bombs dropping onto Ford Island and into Pearl Harbor. then they saw bombs bombs being dropped on the seven battleships in an area of the Pearl Harbor known as battleship row. Next they saw Japanese torpedo bomber planes skimming the surface of the water toward them, and they saw the planes drop three torpedos into the channel that subsequently struck their ship and the USS Helena light cruiser.
