1851
Castle and Cooke obtain licenses to sell wholesale products in Hawaii.

1858
Castle and Cooke enter the food business with an investment in Hawaii's sugar industry.

1894
Castle & Cooke Co. is incorporated.

1901
James Dole begins growing pineapple and incorporates his company as the Hawaiian Pineapple Company.

1932
Castle & Cooke acquires a 21 percent ownership of Hawaiian Pineapple Company.

1961
Castle & Cooke and the Hawaiian Pineapple Company merge.

1964
Castle & Cooke enters the banana business.

1986
The Dole brand enjoys a worldwide recognition rate of 98 percent.

1991
Castle & Cooke changes its name to Dole Food Company, Inc.

1993
Dole Cannery water tower in Honolulu was disassembled in October of 1993 because of corrosion problems.

1996
Dole pioneers packaged fresh salad mixes.

2001
In about July of 2001 Dole sold its papaya, coffee, other fruit orchards, and flower operations in Waialua. In 2001 Dole also reincorporated and moved from being incorporated in Hawaii to being incorporated in Delaware, because of the business benefits offered by Delaware.

2003
CEO David Murdock completes deal that converts Dole to private company.

2005
Dole announced their plans to re launch Oahu's "Waialua Coffee" brand and start rowing coffee and cacao on Oahu in march of 2005.

2008
Early in 2008 the Dole Food Company announced its plan to sell 2000 acres of its land between Wahiawa and Waialua for about $39 million to raise cash for the company, which recorded a loss of $58 million in 2007. In May of 2008 Dole announced its plan to sell another 5000 acres of Central Oahu land that Dole had not farmed for more then 10 years. In 2008 Dole owned about 28,000 acres of land on Oahu with about 2700 acres used for its pineapple operation and 195 acres used for growing coffee and cacao.
