Bulgogi Recipe

Recipe for Bulgogi, a Korean dish made of thinly sliced beef marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, sugar, green onions and black pepper, then cooked on a grill, sometimes at the table.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound of beef (rib eye, sirloin, or top round)
  • 2 tablespoons of cold water
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoons of sherry
  • 2 stalks of green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil

    Instructions
While the meat is still partially frozen, slice into think slices across the grain (partly frozen is not mandatory but it makes the slicing easier). Cut meat across the grain in very thin slices In a glass, plastic, or ceramic bowl mix the water, sugar, soy sauce, garlic, pepper, sesame seed and sherry. Add the meat to the marinade, press it down, cover it, and chill 4 to 6 hours, stirring every 2 or 3 hours. When you're ready to cook the beef, add the green onions and sesame oil. You can either cook the meat in a hot frying pan for two minutes until it is browned on both sides or you can grill it.
