New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel
Honolulu, Hawaii
The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel is one of my favorite hotels in
Hawaii because of its quiet location at the foot of
Diamond Head Crater, on
San Souci Beach and directly across the street from 500 acre
Kapiolani Park.

The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel was built in 1964. It has nine floors and 124
rooms. It sits directly on San Souci Beach
and there are no buildings for a couple of miles
between the the hotel and central
Waikiki. The walk from
the hotel to Central Waikiki takes about fifteen minutes.
The distance between the center of Waikiki and the New Otani
Hotel is a negative for some people but it is a huge plus
for many others.
Restaurants and Cafes
The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel's beachfront
Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant is one of the
most romantic dining spots in Honolulu, especially at night.
The hotel's elegant Miyako Japanese restaurant is located on the second floor.
There is also a snack shop and a convenience store on the ground level of the
hotel, in the two-story section of the hotel between the main building
and Kalakaua Avenue.
Room Locations:
The Waikiki facing rooms have unobstructed views of Waikiki Beach and
Kapiolani Park and the oceanfront rooms have unobstructed views
of the open ocean. The rooms on the Diamond Head side
of the hotel are the least expensive but they are also the smallest
rooms in the hotel and some of them have views that are
completely obstructed by the San Souci Building next door. I
should note, however, that a few of the small inexpensive rooms on that
side of the hotel have unobstructed views of Diamond Head Crater.
There are some apartment units with kitchens in the three
story low rise building next to the main hotel tower.
