Hula Festivals and Contests on Oahu

Information about hula festivals, hula competitions, and hula performances on Oahu Island in Hawaii. Also includes Tahitian dance and other Polynesian dance festivals and competitions on Oahu.

Hula Hoolauna Aloha Festival

International Waikiki Hula Conference
Annual hula networking conference held in Waikiki that attractions hula troupes, hula dancers, hula instructors from around the world. The 3rd Annual International Hula Conference will take place November 13-15, 2009.

King Kamehameha Hula Competition
June festival presented by the Hawaii State Council on Hawaiian Heritage. Takes place at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

Moanikeala (Oahu)
This annual hula festival at the Polynesian Cultural Center on the northeast side of Oahu takes place in January.

Prince Lot Hula Festival
A non-competitive hula festival founded in 1978 that is held every year in July at Moanalua Gardens in Honolulu's Kamananui Valley. The festival is named in honor of Prince Lot, who was King Kamehameha V from 1863 to 1872. For the first two years of the festival, the hula was performed on a stage, but now the dancers perform on a traditional hula mound. Spectators sit on the grass and in addition to hula performances, there are craft demonstrations and food booths. Visitors can also stroll through the gardens and visit the Chinese Hall and the Prince Lot Cottage. The 32nd Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival took place July 18, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Queen Liliuokalani Hula Competition
Annual hula competition for children and young people that includes a Miss and Master Keiki Hula Competition and a group hula competition featuring both modern and traditional hula. The 34th Annual Queen Liliuokalani Keiki Hula Competition took place at the Blaisdell Center Arena July 16-18, 2009.

Te Mahana Hiroa O Tahiti
An annual Tahitian dance competition for children and teens at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Northeast Oahu. The 9th Annual Te Mahana Hiroa O Tahiti took place July 10-11, 2009.

World Invitational Hula Festival (Oahu)
Annual hula festival featuring hula halau from many different parts of the world, including France, Guam, India, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Okinawa, Hawaii, and the mainland United States. The 18th Annual World Invitational Hula Festival will take place at the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu November 12-15, 2009.
