2006 Big Wave Invitational

The 2006 Quicksilver Big Wave Invitational will take place in Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu on a day between December 1, 2006 and February 28, 2007 if, and only if, the open-ocean waves are 20 feet tall or higher.

2006 is the 20th anniversary of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. The first event took place in 1986.

Invited Athletes
Among the 24 riders invited to participate in the 2006 event are defending champion Bruce Irons of Hawaii, eight-time world champion Kelly Slater of Florida, Eddie Aikau's younger brother Clyde Aikau.

The opening ceremony for the 2006 Big Wave Invitational took place on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 3:00 pm.

Prize Money
Total prize package is $94,000 USD with $55,000 of that going to the first place winner.
