Sponsor of Marker 1
The "Beaches of Waikiki" marker was paid for by the Shirahama Tourism Association, Shirahama Beach, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Shirahama is a beach resort area about 200 kilometers from Osaka. In 2000 Shirahama and Waikiki established a good will sister beach relationship.

Location of Marker 1
Marker #1 is located on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki Beach, near the spot where Kalakaua Avenue and Monsarrat Avenue come together. It is on the Kapiolani Park side of Queen's Surf Beach, near the huge outdoor movie screen frame that usually sits on one side of that beach (free outdoor movies are often shown on weekends at Queen's Surf Beach at an event called "Sunset on the Beach").
