The Waikiki Aquarium was founded in 1904, and it has been part of
the University of Hawaii since 1919. The aquarium exhibits more then 450 species
of aquatic animals and plants and it receives more then
350,000 visitors a year. In addition to fish and other sea animals,
the aquarium has a live monk seal exhibit and a large collection
of living coral.
The aquarium has been designated as a Coastal Ecosystems Learning
Center for the Pacific Island Region of the
Coastal America Partnership.
The Waikiki Aquarium is located on the Diamond Head end of
Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu.
