USS Arizona Battleship
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
USS Arizona battleship was sunk in Pearl Harbor
by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. The ship
was damaged beyond repair, and therefore was
not raised and put back into service as were many
of the other ships damaged and sunk that day.
Instead, it was left underwater, along with
the remains of many of its crew members who died that
day, as a tribute to them and a memorial commemorating
the attack on the USS Arizona and Pearl Harbor.
Today the deck of the ship is six feet underwater
and a beautiful white memorial has been built above
it, allowing visitors to view the sunken ship from above
and even see oil oozing up out of the water.
