This is the building where the Hawaii State Legislature meets, and it was built in 1969. The cone shaped senate and house chambers symbolize the volcanoes of Hawaii and the tall columns represent the coconut palms of Hawaii. The pool of water around the building symbolizes that Hawaii is the only U.S. state surrounded by water. The building was closed for rennovations in 1991 and reopened in 1995.
