Oahu's Offshore Islands

Photographs and information about some of the small islands and islets off the coast of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. More than 30 of Hawaii's offshore islands are part of the Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary, a bird refuge that was established in 1981.

Makapuu Point Islands
Islands off of Makapuu Point on the southeast shore of Oahu include Manana Island which is also called Rabbit Island, Kaohikaipu Island which is also called Black Rock or Turtle Island, and two tiny rocky islands near those two larger islands called Kakalaioa Rock and Mokuhope Island.

Kailau Bay and Waimanalo Bay Islands
Islands in Kailua and Waimanalo bays include the two Mokolua Islands off of Lanikai Beach, Popoia Island which is also known as Flat Island and Mokolea Island which is also known as Bird Rock.

Kaneohe Bay Islands
Islands in Kaneohe Bay include Mokuoleo Island, home of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, which is also known as Coconut Island, Mokolii Island offshore at Kualoa Beach Park which is also known as Chinaman's Hat, Kapapa Island which is on the National Register of Historic Places, and several others.

North Shore Oahu Islands
Islands off the northeast coast of Oahu, near Laie, Kahuku, and Turtle Bay, include Mokuauia Island in Laie Bay which is also known as Goat island, Kukaimanini Island in Kawela Bay, and several others.

South Shore Oahu Islands
Islnads on Oahu's south shore include Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Sand Island near downtown Honolulu, Magic Island near Waikiki, which is really just a penensula, and Mokauea Island in the Keehi Lagoon which is home to several fishing families.
