Maunalua Bay

Maunalua Bay is located on the south coast of Oahu, near Koko Crater, Koko Head, and and the community of Hawaii Kai. It is a popular spot for water sports such as powerboating, jetskiing, parasailing, kayaking, fishing, and scuba diving. "Maunalua" means "two mountains" and the bay was given that name becaause of its proximity to Koko Crater and Koko Head.

About Maunalua Bay Beach Park
About 535,000 square feet of coral and other material was dredged from Maunalua Bay to form the shoreline of Maunalua Beach Park. The park was created by Henry J. Kaiser when the Hawaii Kai Marina was built. At the same time the park was built, a boat channel was dredged. Kaiser donated th park to the city and county of Honolulu in 1960. Park facilities include restrooms, showers, and parking. Maunalua Bay Park is not great for swimming because the bottom is rocky and shallow. the park is located at 6505 Kalanianaole Highway.

One of the fun ways to visit Maunalua Bay is go take one of the amphibious vehicle tours offered by Duck Tours of Hawaii.
