Makalei Beach Park

Makalei Beach Park is located on the southeast shore of Oahu, east of Waikiki Beach, between Kaluahole Beach and Leahi Park.

Makalei Beach Park is a small park - less then one acre in size - located at the base of Diamond Head at the intersection of Diamond Head Road and Makalei Place. The park's shoreline is a seawall but there is a small sandy area on the west end. Facilities include picnic tables and showers.

The park is a popular spot for picnics and weddings, and it is also an access point for several surfing spots, including Ricebowls, Tongg's, The Winch, Radicals, Graveyards, Suicides, and Sleepy Hollows. Other activities at the park include fishing, snorkeling, and swimming.

Makalei Beach Park was formerly the site of a private beachfront home. The land was purchased by the City and County of Honolulu in 1972. It was named after a legendary tree that was suppose to have attracted fish.
