Kaena Point State Park

A 780 acre park with a large sandy beach, located in a remote spot on the far western tip of Oahu, at Keawaula Bay. Surf conditions are sometimes calm enough for family swimming in the summer but many times - and especially during the winter - the conditions are only suitable for expert surfers. Park also has tide pools, natural stone arches, a hiking trail, and views of the Makua coastline.

Kaena Point Beach Park is a 780 acre park at the end of Farrington Highway (Highway 930). At one time this park was noisy with the sound of motorcycles and all terrain vehicles and full of trash and abandoned vehicles. Now vehicles are banned and many of the native coastal plants, Hawaiian monk seals, and nesting seabirds have returned, and it is a wonderful place to visit.

Relatively remote wild coastline with picnicking opportunities and shore fishing. Large sandy beach at Keawa'ula Bay with board surfing and bodysurfing for experts and swimming only during completely calm conditions in the summer; lifeguard services. Long family hike (2.7 miles one-way) along volcanic coast with tide pools, small natural stone arches and fine views of Makua coastline. Early morning porpoise sightings from point near Kaluakauila stream mouth. Viewing of the large sea cave, Kaneana, legendary home of Nanue the shark man. Hot, dry area with little shade. No drinking water.
