Hickam Air Force Base

Hickam Air Force Base is a 2850 acre United States Air Force base located adjacent to the Honolulu International Airport (HNL). Hickam Air Force base and the international airport have a shared use agreement that creates a single airport complex.

Facts About Hickam Air Force Base
-Built on a coral reef covered with a think layer of soil
-Named in Honor of Lt. Col. Horace Meek Hickham
-Bordered by Pearl Harbor on the west
-Bordered by Honolulu International Airport on the east
-Bordered by Fort Kamehameha on the south

History of Hickam Air Force Base
-1934 Army Air Corps started building air facility next to Pearl Harbor
-New Airfield was dedicated on May 31, 1935
-1st mass of bombers arrived at Hickam May 14, 1941 (from California)
-Japanese bombed Hickam on December 7, 1941
-189 people died and 303 were wounded
