Hickam Air Force Base

Hickam Air Force Base is a 2850 acre United States Air Force base located adjacent to the Honolulu International Airport (HNL). Hickam Air Force base and the international airport have a shared use agreement that creates a single airport complex.

  • Built on a coral reef covered with a think layer of soil
  • Named in Honor of Lt. Col. Horace Meek Hickham
  • Bordered by Pearl Harbor on the west
  • Bordered by Honolulu International Airport on the east

    History of Hickam Air Force Base
  • 1934 Army Air Corps started building air facility next to Pearl Harbor
  • New Airfield was dedicated on May 31, 1935
  • 1st mass of bombers arrived at Hickam May 14, 1941 (from California)
  • Japanese bombed Hickam on December 7, 1941
  • 189 people died and 303 were wounded
