Bishop Museum
Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii



  • The largest museum in Hawaii is located in the Kalihi District of Honolulu. It has a large collection of ancient Polynesian and Hawaiian artifacts as well as exhibits featuring the Hawaiian Monarchy, Hawaii's missionary, plantation, and whaling history, and the history of Hawaii's many different ethnic groups. The Bishop Museum is also the home of the Jhamandas Watumull Planetarium, one of the largest insect research centers in the world, the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame, and the Pacific Science Association.

    Bishop Museum Photo Gallery

    Hawaiian Hall Closed for Renovations: 2006-2008
    In July of 2006, the Bishop Museum closed their three-floor Hawaiian Hall Gallery in order to begin a $20 million renovation project. The Hawaiian Hall is expected to open again in the Spring of 2008.

    Jhamandas Watumull Planetarium
    An educational and research facility on the grounds of the Bishop Museum that also produces planetarium shows for the general public.

    Gressitt Center for Research in Entomology
    This insect research center on the grounds of the Bishop Museum houses the third largest insect collection in the United States and the eighth largest in the world.

    Hawaii Sport Hall of Fame
    The Hawaii Sport Hall of Fame has venues at the Aloha Stadium, the Honolulu Airport, and on the campus of the Bishop Museum.
