Free Activities in Waikiki

Information about free things to do in the Waikiki area of Honolulu on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Friday Afternoon Band Concerts
Friday afternoon concerts performed by local musicians from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.

Friday Night Fireworks
Friday Night fireworks on the beach at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. Fireworks begin at 7:30 or 8:00 pm.

Kuhio Beach Torch Lighting and Hula Show
Kuhio Beach torch lighting and hula show, 7 to 8 pm nightly at the Kuhio Beach Park Hula Mound near the Duke Kahanamoku Statue (Kalakaua Avenue and Uluniu Street). Hula show with hula lessons Monday through Thursday. Hula performances only Friday-Saturday. (808-523-4674)

Hawaiian Music Evenings
You can listen to Hawaiian music free by walking up and down Waikiki beach in the evenings. Hotels with beach side entertainment include the Royal Hawaiian, the Outrigger Waikiki, the Halekulani, and the Moana Surfrider.

Street Performers on Kalakaua
Watch the street performers on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

Tour Historic Waikiki
Take one of the free guided Waikiki Historic Trail tours. The Queen's Tour starts at the visitor Information Station at Kalakaua and Kapahulu Avenues and it covers Waikiki between Kapiolani Park and the International Marketplace, including the homes of Prince Kuhio, Princess Kaiulani, and King Kalakaua. The Kalia Tour starts at the Hilton Hawaiian Village annex of the Bishop Museum (in the Kalia Tower) and it covers the Kalia district and Fort DeRussy area.

Tour the Princess Kaiulani Hotel
The Princess Kaiulani Hotel offers tours of their property, which is located on the former Kanawha Estate where Princess Victoria Kaiulani lived. Tours are at 4 pm on weekdays and they begin at Lloyd Sexton's portrait of the princess (808-922-5811).

Watch People
Grab a bench at sundown on the Ala Wai Canal or sit on the wall at Kuhio Beach and watch the people, people, paddlers, and surfers. Kalakaua Avenue is great for people watching anytime of the day or night.

Window Shopping and Free Entertainment
Go window shopping at watch free entertainment at the DFS Galleria (8 pm Wed & Fri), International Marketplace, (6 to 9 pm daily) Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and the Waikiki Town Center second floor stage (Polynesian show 7 pm Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat).
