Historic Building Tours on Oahu

Guided tours of historic buildings on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Includes tours of the Iolani Palace, Hawaii Theater, and two of the oldest and most historic hotels in Waikiki.

AIA Architectural Walking Tours
With advance reservations, the Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects will lead a tour of 23 architecturally significant buildings in Downtown Honolulu and the historic Capitol District that wereconstructed between 1821 and 1995. • Chinatown Walking Tours
Guided walking tours of Honolulu's Chinatown are conducted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii Heritage Center.

    Iolani Palace Tours
Tours of the Iolani Palace are available Tuesday through Saturday. Three tours are available, a docent guided tour, a 50 minute self-guided prerecorded audio tour, and a self-guided gallery tour that only visits the basement. Note that children under 5 years old are only permitted on the latter tour.

    Hawaii Theater Tours
Every Tuesday the Hawaii Theatre conducts a one hour tour of their historic building. The tour includes information about the history, architecture, and artwork of the theater and a demonstration of their 1922 Robert Morgon organ. 1130 Bethel Street in Honolulu Tour begins at 11:00 a.m. and there is a small fee. Occasionally tours are cancelled because of rehearsals or other theater activity so call 808-528-0506 in advance to confirm.

    Moana Surfrider Hotel Tours
I'm not sure if the historic tours of the Moana Hotel are being offered during the period when they are transitioning from a Sheraton Hotel to a Westin Hotel. Call the hotel to confirm. The Moana Hotel was the first luxury hotel built in Waikiki. Before the Moana was built there were only a few small guest houses in Waikiki.

    Royal Hawaiian Hotel Tours
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is known as the "Pink Palace of the Pacific" and it was the second large hotel built in Hawaii. Visitors can pick a pamphlet describing a self-guided tour of the 12 acre hotel grounds at the Concierge desk.
