Information about the Annual Makawao
4th of July Rodeo in upcountry Maui.
About the Makawao Rodeo
Takes place every 4th of July weekend
Organized by the Maui Roping Club
More then 200 competitors
Held at the Oskie Rice Arena, about a mile above Makawao on Olinda Road
Qualifying runs on "slack days" are held the Thursday
and Friday before the rodeo and they are usually free to spectators.
An event called the "Bull Bash" usually takes place on Friday night
Rodeo arena has bleacher seating.
Rodeo usually begins at about 1:00 p.m.
There is usually a shuttle bringing parade spectators
to the rodeo grounds.
If you sit downwind in the rodeo arena you will probably get very dusty
Rodeo event include female barrel racing,
calf roping, bareback bronco riding, and other events.
Outside coolers are prohibited but food and drinks are sold.
Rodeo programs can usually be purchased at the gate.

Sunscreen
Cowboy Hat
Money for food, drink, and program
Tip: Don't park in Makawao Town (roads closed 8:45-11)
Be tolerant of farm smells
