Maui Food Festivals

Information about food festivals on Maui, including the Maui Onion Festival, the East Maui Taro Festival, and the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival.

East Maui Taro Festival
The 16th annual East Maui Taro Festival took place April 26-27, 2008 at the Hana Ballpark in the remote East Maui town of Hana. The event featured live music and hula performances, a Taro pancake breakfast, local arts and crafts, cultural demonstrations, and presentations about Taro. The 17th Annual East Maui Taro Festival will take place April 25-26, 2009.

Kapalua Wine and Food Festival
The 27th annual Kapalua Wine and Food Festival took place June 26-29, 2008 on the grounds of the Kapalua Resort, in West Maui, north of Lahaina and Kaanapali. The 2008 event featured wine and food tasting events, culinary seminars, a seafood festival, and winemaker dinners. For information about the next Kapalua Wine and Food Festival call 866-669-2440.

Maui Chefs Present
The 16th annual "Maui Chefs Present" event took place the evening of September 5, 2008 in the Aloha Pavilion at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua Hotel. The event featured 12 of Maui's top chefs and entertainment by Grammy nominee Raiatea Helm and dance music by Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats. Maui Chefs Present is an annual benefit for the Maui Community College Culinary Arts Program.

Maui Onion Festival
The 19th annual Maui Onion Festival took place on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Whalers Village Shopping Mall on Kaanapali Parkway a few miles north of Lahaina. The event featured live entertainment, food booths, chef demonstrations, recipe contests, and a Maui onion pairing dinner. Maui Pineapple Festival
The first annual Maui Pineapple Festival and Homecoming event took place September 16, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the event featured chef demonstrations, a pineapple chocolate dipping station, a farmer's market, and live entertainment by Raiatea Helm, Aunty Genoa Keawe. The 2nd annual Maui Pineapple Festival and Homecoming took place at the Kahului Cannery September 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. That year festival goers were given the opportunity to tour the Kahului Pineapple Cannery before it closed. The event also featured information about the history of Maui's pineapple industry, presentations about growing pineapple, pineapple tastings, food booths, and entertainment. The 2008 Maui Pineapple Festival was scheduled to take place September 13, 2008 at the Kapalua Resort in West Maui but it was canceled by the Maui Pineapple Company because of events surrounding the closure of their cannery facility. Taste of Lahaina Food and Music Festival
The 16th annual Taste of Lahaina and Best of Island Music Festival took place September 19-20 2008 at Lahaina Recreation Park II in Lahaina, West Maui. The event featured tastings of the signature dishes of some of Maui's best new and long-time restaurants and continuous live music. Taste of Wailea at the Maui Film Festival
The 8th annual Taste of Wailea Festival took place June 11-15, 2008 on the lawns of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy at the Wailea Gold and Wailea Emerald golf courses. The festival was part of the Maui Film Festival at Wailea and it featured some of Maui's top chefs. In 2008 the Maui Film Festival also featured a Taste of Chocolate. The 2009 Taste of Wailea Festival will take place during the 2009 Maui Film Festival, on one of the nights between June 17 and June 21, 2009.
