Ten Popular Attractions on Maui

Information about ten of the most popular attractions on Maui.

  1. Haleakala National Park
The dormant Haleakala Volcano on the island of Maui was declared part of Hawaii National Park in 1916 and it was declared a separate U.S. national park in 1961. Haleakala National Park has two distinct sections, the summit region and the coastal region.

  2. Old Whaling Town of Lahaina
The west Maui town of Lahaina is the one of the most visited places on the island, mostly because of the many shops, galleries, and cafes in its quaint Front Street and waterfront areas.

  3. Iao Needle and Iao State Park
The Iao Valley is one of the wettest places in Hawaii and visitors go there to visit its lush rainforest and Iao Valley State Monument, and to view the Iao Needle, a 1200 foot tall spike of lava.

  4. Hana and the Hana Highway
The drive from Kahului to Hana Town on the remote east coast of Maui takes about three hours, but it's a beautiful drive and Hana is a very special place.

  5. Upcountry Maui
The lower slopes of Mount Haleakala are ranching and farming country and attractions in that area include several farm tours, the Tedeschi Winery at Ulupalakua Ranch, the Kula Botanical Garden, and the art galleries, shops and cafes of Makawao, Kula and Paia.

  6. Maui Ocean Center
Maui Ocean Center is an aquarium and marine life science center with one of the largest coral reef habitat exhibits in the world. It is located on the south side of the isthmus of Maui.

  7. Hookipa Beach Park
This north Maui beach is one of the best windsurfing beaches in the world and it has been the venue for many international kiteboarding and windsurfing competitions.

  8. Molokini

This 1800 square foot museum near the Isthmus of Maui in Puunenew is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history and heritage of Maui's sugar plantation history.
