About the Pioneer Sugar Mill
The Pioneer Sugar Mill in Lahaina on the west side of Maui was founded in the early 1860's by James Campbell. By 1910 it had 10,000 workers. When the mill closed in 1999 it was one of Hawaii's last sugar plantations. The mill has had several different owners, most currently Amfac Corporation, the developer of the Kaanapali Resort.
