Summit Area Hiking in Healakala National Park
There are about 30 miles (48 kilometers) of hiking trails in the crater and summit area of Haleakala National Park. Hikes range from short 10 minute walks to long overnight hiking trips on the rim, floor, and summit area Temperatures in this area typically range from 30 to 65 degrees F. Hikers should be prepared for high altitudes and cold, rainy conditions. of Haleakala Crater. Altitude sickness can be an issue on the summit of Mount Haleakala. Symptoms include nausea, headache, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Free Haleakala hiking trail maps are available at the Park Headquarters Visitor's Center at 7000 feet and the Haleakala Visitors Center at 9740 feet.

Kipahulu Area Hiking in Healakala National Park
There are about 10 miles (16 kilometers) of trails in the lush coastal area of Haleakala National Park. Temperatures in this area are typically warm and humid. Flash floods can be an issue on these trails so ask the Kipahulu Visitor Center about trail conditions before you begin any hike. The Kipahulu Visitor Center is located at sea level in Haleakala National Park and they usually have free hiking trail maps.
