Northwestern Hawaiian Islands

An introduction to the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, which are also sometimes called the Leeward Hawaiian Islands.

The area northwest of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island of Hawaii has many tiny islands, atolls, reefs, and shoals over a distance of more then 1000 miles.

The Northwest Hawaiian Islands from northwest to southeast are:

Kure Atoll

Midway Atoll

Pearl and Hermes Atoll

Lisianski Island

Laysan Island

Maro Reef

Gardner Pinnacles

French Frigate Shoals

Tern Island

Necker Island

Nihoa


Southeast of Nihoa are (from north to south): Kauai, Niihau, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, Kahoolawe, Molokini, and the Big Island of Hawaii.
