Running Marathons on Kauai
Information about running marathons on the island
of Kauai in Hawaii.
2009 Kauai Marathon
(organized by Jeff Sacchini)
The first annual Kauai Marathon organized
by Jeff Sacchini will take place
on September 6, 2009 and its start and finish
lines will be be on the grounds of the Poipu
Beach Resort.
2003 Kauai Marathon
(organized by Walter Bobo)
140 athletes participated in the 2003 Kauai Marathon
organized by runner Walter Bono. The Kauai Marathon
was a brand new event in 2003, completely separate
from the Kauai Marathon of the 1980's.
The circular route of the 2003 Kauai Marathon began
at the Koloa Fire Station, continued across
red dirt cane haul roads, and turned around at the
visitor's center of the Kauai Coffee Company. The
half marathon route had one steep uphill and one steep
downhill segment and full marathon runners had two steep uphill
climbs. The event t-shirts were made by Red Dirt Shirts.
Leo McCarthy finished first in the men's race and
Janet Snyder finished first in the women's race.
As far as I can tell, this event was only held in 2003,
but someone please
correct me if I am wrong about that.
The 2003 Kauai Marathon awards ceremony
was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

to share about the Kauai Marathon organized by
runner Larry King that took place in
the 1980's? How many years did that event take place?
