Wailua River State Park is located on the eastern "Coconut Coast" of the island of Kauai, along the banks of the Wailua River.

Attractions in the 1100 acre park include The Wailua River, hiking trails, archeological sites, a boat launching ramp, and a picnic area in a coconut grove on the side of the river. Lydgate Beach Park and snorkeling area is located on the ocean, not far from Wailua Park.

Activities include boating, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, hiking, and having picnics. The hiking trails are located on the north side of the river. The Mount Nounou Trail is two miles long and it ends on the top of Sleeping Giant Mountain, with its rock formation that looks like a human figure lying on its back.

One of the most popular activities in Wailua River State Park is taking a riverboat cruise up the river to view the Fern Grotto, a cave filled with ferns that is surrounded by tropical gardens. Sights along the way include the Sleeping Giant rock formation.
