2nd Na Himeni Kiekie Contest (1997)
Kauai Falsetto Contest held on Kauai before the Aloha Festivals Kauai Contest. An event called the Second Annual Na Himeni Kiekie Contest took place on July 19, 1997 in the Kauai Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort and Spa. There were two categories at that contest, amateur and professional and each contestant performed two songs. They were judged on their ability to hit all of the high notes in one of the following songs: "Kalamaula", "Alika", "Kahealani" or "Akaka Falls". Contestants sang a second song of their choice and the scroing on that song was only used in case of a tie. The first place amateur winner advanced to the September 1997 Frank B. Shaner Hawaiian Falsetto Contest on Oahu. Professional winners received a recording contract.
