History of the French Frigate Shoals

Information about the history of the French Frigate Shoals in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

Naval Auxiliary Airfield French Frigate Shoals
The United States Navy built a 3,300 foot long coral runway on Tern Island in the French Frigate Shoals shortly after the battle of Midway, which occurred in 1942 between June 4 and June 7. Naval Auxiliary Air Field French Frigate Shoals was commissioned in October of 1943.
