Driving on Lanai Island

Information about driving on Lanai Island in Hawaii

Driving From the Lanai Airport
The distance from the Lanai Airport to Lanai City in the interior of the island is about 2.7 miles. The drive from the airport to Kaumalapau Harbor on the west coast is about 3.2 miles. The entire drive from the airport to the Four Seasons Resort at Manele Bay the south coast is about 10 miles, and those 10 miles include passding through Lanai City.

Lanai City to Hulopoe Beach
Drive takes about 1 hour round trip from Lanai City. Hulopoe has running water and restrooms and it is the only pavement accessible beach on the island. Popular activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, and the easy hike to Puu Pehe, also known as "sweetheart rock".

Lanai City to Kamalupau Harbor
Drive takes about 1 hour round trip from Lanai City. The harbor is located on the west end of Lanai and it acessible by driving on one of the few paved roads on the island. It is a cargo harbor with a fuel terminal. The harbor area offers views of 1,000 foot cliffs along the southgshore of Lanai.

There are only about 30 miles of paved road on the island of Lanai, so if you want to do anything more then drive between your resort and Lanai City, you will need a vehicle with four-wheel drive. You can rent a vehicle and drive yourself, but if you've never driven the dirt roads of Lanai before, hiring guide and driver is highly recommended.
