Visitors can access the Waipio Valley by hiking in on their own, or by taking one of the organized hiking, horseback riding, 4 wheel drive vehicle, ATV, or wagon tours into the valley. The road into the valley is steep and unpaved and it drops about 2000 feet (610 meters) from the rim to the floor of the valley. Inside the valley there are taro farms, a black sand beach, and waterfalls that feed a river.

Visiting the Waipio Valley
Several different types of guided tours of the Waipio Valley are available including hiking tours, horseback riding tours, all terrain Vehicle (ATV) tours, four wheel drive vehicle tours, and wagon tours. It is also possible to walk into the valley, or drive your own 4 wheel drive vehicle, but note that the road in and out is very steep.
