Big Island Marine Life Conservation Districts

Hawaii Island Marine Life Conservation Districts off the Big Island of Hawaii that were designated by the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Aquatic Resources.

Kealakekua Bay MLCD
The Kealakekua Bay Marine Life Conservation District is 315 acres in size and it was established in 1969. It is located on the west coast of the Big Island, near the town of Captain Cook. See also About Kealakekua Bay

Lapakahi MLCD
The Lapakahi Marine Life Conservation District was established in 1979 and it is 146 acres in size. It is located about 12 miles north of Kawaihae on the northwest shore of the Big Island.

Old Kona Airport MLCD
The Old Kona Airport Marine Life Conservation District is 217 acres in size and it was established in 1992. It is located just west of the town of Kailua-Kona on the west coast of the Big Island.

Waialea Bay MLCD
The Waialea Bay Marine Life Conservation District is located in the southern end of Kawaihae Bay on the northwest coast of the Big Island. It is 35 acres in size and it was established in 1985.

Waiopae Tidepools MLCD
The Waiopae Tidepools Marine Life Conservation District was established in 2003, and it is located on the east coast of the Big Island, about a one hour drive from the Hilo Airport, near the Vacationland subdivision.
