The Hulihee Palace was built in the 1800's
by Hawaii Governor John Adams Kuakini. Eentually,
through inheritance, the residence became
the property of Princess Ruth Keelikolani,
who opened it as a vacation home to the reigning
monarchs of Hawaii from King Kamehameha II to
Queen Liliuokalani. Over the years ownership
of the palace passed from Princess Ruth to
her cousin Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop,
King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani, to the queen's
nephews Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi
and Prince David Kawananakoa.
