Big Island Atlantis Submarine Tours

Information about the Atlantis Submarine tours off the coast of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The Atlantis Submarine Tours on Hawaii Island begin at the Kailua-Kona Pier, they last about 35 minutes, and they offer views of a 25 acre natural coral reef off the Kona coast at a depth of about 100 feet below the surface. The Atlantis Kona submarine is air conditioned and it can hold 48 passengers.

In addition to their submarine tours, Atlantis Kona also offers several two-activity packages that add one of the following adventures to their submarine tour: a Hawaiian luau, a helicopter tour, a snorkeling or sunset cruise, or (in winter) a whale watching cruise.

Tour prices are about $90 for adults to $45 for children 36 inches tall to 12 years old. Often discounts are available in local Big Island tourist magazines and discounts are also available by booking on the Atlantis Adventures Web site. Note that tour participants must be at least 36 inches tall and that guests must be able to climb and descend a 7-step, vertical ladder into and out of the body of the submarine.

Check-in is at the Atlantis Submarines ticket office on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona across the street from the Kailua Kona-Pier. Guests are transported to the submarine from the Kailua-Kona pier on the "Malama Kai" shuttle boat. The cruise from the pier to the submarine takes about 10 minutes and the cruise itself lasts about 35 minutes. Expect the entire experience to last about 70 minutes, including the round trip boat shuttle ride between the Kona pier and the submarine, boarding and disembarking from the submarine, and the submarine tour itself.

The tours depart three or four times a day. Tour Narration is in English but headsets are available for Japanese language tours.
