Former Hilo Hotels

Uncle Billy's Hilo Bay Hotel
Iconic, 145-room, Banyan Drive hotel that closed on February 1, 2016 after being operated for 50 years. Their first hotel building was constructed in 1966 and improvements were made in 1968 and 1970. At the time the iconic hotel closed it was being managed by Aaron Whiting, grandson of hotel founder William J. jimi Jr. The hotel closed because maintaining the aging building was becoming too expensive, combined with the fact that the lease for the land on which the hotel was situated was set to expire in March of 2016, and would be followed by a month-to-month land lease. Uncle Billy's former Hilo hotel is now managed by Castle Resorts and it is known as the "Pagoda Hilo Bay Hotel".
