World AIDS Day Events in Hawaii

World AIDS Day was established in 1988 and every on December 1, there are several events in Hawaii marking the occasion. World AIDS Day events in Hawaii include memorial services, candlelight vigils, concerts, and award presentations. Also includes World AIDS Day public outreach programs to raise awareness about the fight against HIV and AIDS in Hawaii and also to fight prejudice against people living with AIDS in Hawaii.

Oahu World AIDS Day Events

St. Clement World AIDS Day Concert

There will be a 2008 World AIDS Day Concert, Memorial Ceremony, and reception at St. Clements Episcopal Church on December 1, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Concert will include performances by the Honolulu Men's Chorus and Puna Men's Chorus. The event will also feature presentation of the Suzanne-Richmond Crum Award and the awards for Hawaii's 2008 World AIDS Day Youth Leadership Challenge, The St. Clement Parish is located at 1515 Wilder Avenue in Honolulu. St. Andrews Meditation Labyrinth
On December 1, 2008 there will be a World AIDS Day Meditation Labyrinth at the Cathedral Church of St. Andrew at the corner of Beretania and Alakea Streets in Honolulu. The event will feature meditative music, information displays, a Eucharist at 12:15 p.m., and a prayer candle corner to remember those who have died of AIDS and AIDS-related diseases. Free AIDS testing with results in 20 minutes will be available in the conference room on the Diamond Head side of the Cathedral from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information about the event visit Life Foundation and World AIDS Day Hawaii Web sites.

2008 Maui World AIDS Day Events

Maui World AIDS Day Candlelight Ceremony
On December 1, 2008 there will be a Maui World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil and Ceremony in Kihei's Kalama Park at 5:30 p.m. For more information visit the Web site of the Maui AIDS Foundation.

Big Island World AIDS Day Events

Hilo World AIDS Day Memorial Service
There will be a 2008 World AIDS Day memorial service on Coconut Island in Hilo on December 1, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. The event will remember those who have died of HIV/AIDS. Refreshments will be served. For more information visit the Web site of the Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation.

Hilo World AIDS Day Concert
There will be a 2008 World AIDS Day concert at the historic Hilo Palace Theater on December 5, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be narrated by Skylark Rossetti and it will include performances by The Honolulu Men's Chorus, the Puna Men's Chorus, and other guest performers. At 5:00 on the night of the concert there will be a ceremony recognizing and celebrating the lives of those who passed away due to HIV/AIDS. Hawaii-Wide 2008 World AIDS Day Events

2008 World Aids Day Youth Leadership Challenge
In 2008 there was a state-wide World AIDS Day Hawaii Youth Leadership Contest in Hawaii for middle-school and high-school students. Students were invited to submit artwork, writing, or poetry expressing how they would join of the fight against AIDS. The contest had two categories: Junior (grade 6-8) and Senior (grade 9-12). Awards were issued, and the winning projects were displayed, at St. Clements Episcopal Church on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2008. The church is located at 1515 Wilder Avenue in Honolulu.
