Waterfront Valentine's Day Ukulele Festival
The first Japan-Hawaii Ukulele Festival
will take place at Honolulu's Kakaako Waterfront Park
on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009, from
11:00 a.m. until about 6:30 p.m. The event is free and
it will feature live music performed by top
entertainers from Hawaii and Japan.
The food sales will be a benefit for the Ukulele
Foundation of Hawaii and the Konishiki Kids foundation,
so no outside food, drink, or coolers will be allowed.
Bring beach chairs or a blanket.
ENTERTAINERS FROM JAPAN: Kazuyuki Sekiguchi,
Iwao, Masaru Shimabukuro, Kimiko Wakiyama,
and Dai Kirai. ENTERTAINERS FROM HAWAII:
Ohta-san (Herb Ohta, Sr), Roy Sakuma,
Robi Kahakalau, Jeff Rasmussen, Kapena,
Bruce Spencer, Manoa DNA, Vaihi, Taimane Gardner,

Kakaako Waterfront Park is a shoreline, linear park
located between Downtown Honolulu and
Ala Moana Center. It's a beautiful park but
most Hawaii visitors don't even know its there.
Love Gone Wild at the Honolulu Zoo
The Honolulu Zoo is having a "Love Gone Wild" evening cocktail party
with live entertainment on Valentine's Day on the zoo grounds.
If you buy tickets in advance
the event is $50 per person and the price includes
wine, a martini tasting bar, appetizers, live
jazz entertainment by Owana Salazar and friends,
and "amorous animal" zoo tours. Dress is casual
safari attire. This is a special event that is
likely to sell out fast, so order tickets
right away if you're planning to attend. Call

Valentine Dinner Show at Chai's Island Bistro
Jazz and R&B singer Ginai will perform
live at a Chai's Island Bistro dinner show
on Valentine's Day, February 14 2009 and Willie K will
perform at Chai's the night before Valentine's Day.
A special romantic dinner will be available both
nights with one seating at 6:00 p.m. and before,
and another seating at 8:30 and after. The menu
will feature many of the appetizers Chai's is most
famous for, a choices of entree, and two of
Chef Chai's fabulous desserts. Chai's Island
Bistro is located in Honolulu's Aloha Tower Marketplace.
An aside... Chef Chai Chaowasaree recently published his first
cookbook entitled "The Island Bistro Cookbook".
Kenny Rankin Honolulu Valentine's Day Concert
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kenny Rankin
will perform a Valentine's Day concert in
Downtown Honolulu's historic Hawaii Theatre
on February 14, 2009. He will perform favorite
hits such as "Here’s That Rainy Day,"
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps,"
"Haven't We Met," "You Are So Beautiful,"
"Penny Lane," "When Sunny Gets Blue,"
"Groovin," "On And On," and
"With A Little Help From My Friends."
Cupid's Quest by Ravenchase
This combination adventure race and scavenger hunt
in downtown Honolulu includes appetizers and two drinks
at the end of a competition during which teams of friends
or family members roam around downtown Honolulu following
clues, solving puzzles, and tackling challenges.
Cost is $60 per player with a $10 discount for Hawaii
residents.
Boyz II Men at Blaisdell
The multiple Grammy winning "Boyz II Men" R&B group
will perform live in concert at Blaisdell Concert
Hall in Honolulu. Tickets are available at the
Blaisdell Box Office or through
Ticketmaster, and
ticket prices range from $45 to $125
"Souvenir" at the Diamond Head Theatre
On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009,
the Diamond Head Theatre will feature the play "Souvenir"
directed by John Rampage and starring Laurence Paxton and

Damn I'm Sexy Valentine's Day Party
This Valentine's Day evening event
at ThirtyNineHotel Club in Downtown Honolulu
is a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood.
Hawaii Art Museum 2nd Saturday
The February 2009 "Second Saturday at the Hawaii State
Art Museum" event will take place on Valentine's Day,
February 14, 2009. It is a free family oriented event
featuring hands-on learning activities, quick
tours of the museum, and world music ensembles from
the University of Hawaii's Ethnomusicology Program.

Maui Valentine's Day Events
Aloha Ballroom Valentine Dance
(February 11, 2009)
Maui's Aloha Ballroom Dance Academy is presenting
a Valentine's Dance and Potluck Dinner on Wednesday,
February 11, 2009 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Kihei
Community Center in South Maui. The event is
free to academy students but outside Hawaii visitors
and residents and welcome and invited to attend for a $10 fee.
Attendees re asked to bring a potluck
dinner item that does not include garlic or onions).
The dance will feature the live music, big band
sounds of Louise and Ortiz. For more information call

Makana at the Maui Arts Center
Hawaii guitarist Makana plays what I would
call a fusion of Hawaiian slack key guitar,
contemporary music, rock music, and world music.
He has opened for world class performers
such as Sting and Santana, and his performances
never fail to dazzle and entertain.
Makana will be performing in the McCoy Studio
Theater of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center
at 7:30 p.m. on Valentine's day. If you can't
get tickets for that one, a second show has been
added the day after Valentine's Day.
"Inspired by Love" Concert
Husband and wife light opera performers
Debra Lynn and Jerry Eiting will perform
a Valentine's Day Concert in Castle Theater
at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center on
February 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
Eric Gilliom will open the evening and
several other musicians and singers will
also perform. The concert will feature
Broadway hits and both classic and contemporary
love songs. There will be a Valentine's
Day dinner available for purchase in the
theater's courtyard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Big Island Valentine's Day Events
Dine and Dance Affair
You can have a fun Valentine's Day evening and raise money for a
good cause at the same time by attending the Soroptimist
International of Kona's annual "Break the Cycle" fundraiser
to provide emergency funds for West Hawaii victims of domestic
violence. Tickets are $75 per person and they must be
purchased in advance by February 11, 2009. The event will
feature an elegant dinner, a silent auction and entertainment
by 3 piece band Pacific Fusion. For more information or

Hilo Heart Walk
The 12th Annual Hawaii Heart Walk is an annual fundraising
event featuring a 2.2 and a 4.4 mile non-competitive
walk route in Hilo on the east coast of Hawaii Island.
The Heart Walk is a fundraiser for the American
Heart Association, and another goal of the event is to
increase public awareness exercising and eating right
for a heart healthy lifestyle.
There is no entry fee for this event and walkers who
raise at least $65 for the cause get a Heart Walk t-shirt.
Hilo Chinese New Year Festival
The 2009 Hilo Chinese New Year Festival will
begin at 9:00 am on February 14, 2009 with
lion dancers offering traditional blessings
in Downtown Hilo. The lions will parade to Kalakaua Park
where thousands of firecrackers will be set off
at 10:00 am, followed by a festival until 3:00 pm
featuring live entertainment and booths
with Asian arts and crafts, food, exhibits,
and cooking and cultural demonstrations.
