Ukulele Festivals in Hawaii

2009 Hawaii Ukulele Festivals
Dates and scheduled performers for Hawaii's 2009 ukulele festivals and ukulele competitions.

Ukulele Festival Hawaii
This Hawaii ukulele festival was first organized by ukulele instructor Roy Sakuma nearly 40 years ago. Today it is held on four islands, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island of hawaii. The Oahu event is held in Waikiki's Kapiolani Park and it features a 700+ member ukulele Band. 2009 will be the 39th Oahu Ukulele Festival, the 9th Great Waikoloa Ukulele Festival the 7th Kauai Ukulele Festival, and the 4th Maui Ukulele Festival.

Japan-Hawaii Ukulele Picnic
the first Annual Japan-Hawaii Ukulele Picnic took place in Honolulu's Kakaako Waterfront Park on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. to Sunset. Featured performers included Ohta-san, Roy Sakuma, Kapena, Manoa DNA, Vaihi, Chris Kamaka, Nate Mata, Brian Tolentino, Taimane, Bruce Spencer, the Sekiguchi Band, Konishiki & Taupou, Aloha Nui, Dai Hirai, Iwao, Jody Kamisato, Chris Salvador, Masaru Shimabukuro, Keith Nakaganeku, Naoko Usui & Idling, Ryukyukokou Matsuri Daiko, Ukulele Hale, the Koaloha Band, the Puapua Band, and the the Students of the Roy Sakuma Ukulele School. The Ukulele Picnic was founded in 2000 in ? Japan. The Hawaii event is a collaboration between "Southern All Stars" rock band bass guitarist Kazuyuki Sekiguchi of Japan and world famous sumo wrestler Sumotori Konishiki of Waianae, West Oahu. The event is a benefit for the Ukulele Foundation of Hawaii and the Konishiki Kids Foundation.

Aloha Tower Ukulele Contest (Oahu Island)
Every September there is a ukulele contest at the waterfront Aloha Tower Marketplace on the edge of the harbor in Downtown Honolulu. The event is usually an official Aloha Week event.
