Information about 2009 ukulele festivals in Hawaii. Includes 2009 Roy Sakuma ukulele festivals on four islands and a new ukulele festival in Hawaii organized by a Japanese rock star and a world famous Hawaii-born sumo wrestler.

39th Annual Honolulu Ukulele Festival (Oahu Island)
DATE: July 19, 2009 (Sunday)
TIME: 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
VENUE: Kapiolani Park Bandstand
LOCATION: Waikiki, Honolulu, Oahu Island

9th Annual Waikoloa Ukulele Festival (Hawaii Island)
DATE: March 7, 2009 (Saturday)
TIME: 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
VENUE: Waikoloa Resort, Queen's Marketplace
LOCATION: Waikoloa, West Hawaii Island (Big Island)
MC: Danny Kaleikini hosted events on 3 stages
DESCRIPTION: Featured performers included Hoku Zuttermeister, Ohta-san, Nando-san, Roy Sakuma, John Keawe, Boo Takagi, Uncle Willie Perreira, Ukulele Lehulehu, Kris Fuchigami, Auntie Mary Ann Lim, Auntie Lani Lee, Hilo Ukulele Band, the Kau High School Ensemble Band, and the students of Kano O Ka Aina. Roy Sakuma presented a ukulele workshop before the festival, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

7th Annual Kauai Ukulele Festival (Kauai Island)
DATE: April 11, 2009 (Saturday)
TIME: 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
VENUE: Kukui Grove Center
LOCATION: Lihue, Kauai Island

4th Annual Maui Ukulele Festival (Maui Island)
DATE: 4th - October 18, 2009 (Sunday)
TIME: 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.
VENUE: Maui Arts and Cultural Center
LOCATION: Kahului, Central Maui

2009 Japan-Hawaii Ukulele Picnic (Oahu Island)
The first Annual Japan-Hawaii Ukulele Picnic took place in Honolulu's Kakaako Waterfront Park on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. to Sunset. Featured performers included Ohta-san, Roy Sakuma, Kapena, Manoa DNA, Vaihi, Chris Kamaka, Nate Mata, Brian Tolentino, Taimane, Bruce Spencer, the Sekiguchi Band, Konishiki & Taupou, Aloha Nui, Dai Hirai, Iwao, Jody Kamisato, Chris Salvador, Masaru Shimabukuro, Keith Nakaganeku, Naoko Usui & Idling, Ryukyukokou Matsuri Daiko, Ukulele Hale, the Koaloha Band, the Puapua Band, and the Students of the Roy Sakuma Ukulele School.

2009 Aloha Tower Marketplace Ukulele Contest (Oahu Island)
The 4rd Annual Aloha Tower Ukulele Contest has not yet been scheduled but it is expected to take place in September of 2009 on the Center Stage of the Aloha Tower Marketplace. Contestants can usually enter the competition by submitting an application to the Hawaiian Ukulele Company, a ukulele shop located on the first floor of the center. 2009 Waimea Town Center Ukulele Contest (Kauai Island)
The 11th Annual Waimea Town Center Ukulele Contest took place on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. The event was part of the annual 2009 Waimea Town Celebration, it was sponsored by Scotty's Music of Kalaheo, and it featured amateur ukulele players competing for prizes.
