Hawaiian Steel Guitar Convention
(Oahu Island)
Every two years the Hawaiian Steel Guitar
Association hosts a convention at the
Queen Kapiolani Hotel in Waikiki.
The April 28-30, 2009 featured three
days of live onstage performances in the
hotel's ` Room and several public
concerts including a performance at the
Kapiolani Park Lei Day celebration on May 1, 2009
and the Annual Jerry Byrd Steel Guitar
Concert on May 3, 2009 in the Ala Wai Golf
Course Clubhouse Ballroom. The admission
fee of $120 covered all of the events inside
the hotel. All of the events outside the
hotel were free and open to the public.
Halekulani Hotel Steel Guitar Festival
(Oahu Island)
For several years there was a Steel Guitar Festival
at the Halekulani Hotel Waikiki. I will try to
find out if that festival is still taking place.
Shore Bird Steel Guitar Sundays
(Oahu Island)
For several years there were once-a-month
steel guitar performances and jam sessions
at the Shore Bird Restaurant inside the
Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel in Waikiki.
I believe those events were discontinued
after 2008 due to funding constraints.
