Hawaii Statehood 59th Anniversary

Hawaii was admitted into the United States of America as the 50th state on August 21, 1959, therefore the 50th anniversary of Hawaii Hawaii statehood be on August 21, 2009. In Hawaii, statehood day is an official state holiday that is observed on the third Friday of August. The 2009 Hawaii Statehood Day government holiday will fall on Friday, August, 17, 2008.

This Web site created by the Hawaii State Government features general information, history, news, and special acvitites and events planned for the 50th Anniversary of Hawaii being admitted into the United States. The Hawaii state legislature created a 25 member statehood commission to plan activities and events to commemorate the occasion.

Post Office to Issue Hawaii 50th Anniversary Stamp
United States Post Office will issue a new stamp in 2009 commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming a state. The stamp will probably be released in the summer of 2009 and it will feature a painting by Hawaii artist Herb Kane of a surfer and paddlers in an outrigger canoe. The stamp's design was previewed during a presentation made to Hawaii Senator Daniel Akaka and Hawaii Representative Neil Abercrombie in Nvoember of 2008.

Events Commemorating Hawaii's 50th Statehood Anniversary

Statehood Anniversary Events Kick Off March 18, 2009
March 18, 2009 will mark the beginning of the celebration and observation commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming a state. Congress passed the Hawaii Admissions Act was passed by congress in March of 2009 and President Eisenhower signed the act on August 21, 1959.
