Princess Kaiulani's Birthday
October 16, 1875

Events in Hawaii celebrating the birthday of Princess Victoria Kaiulani and events honoring the memory of Princess Kaiulani. Princess Kaiulani was born on October 16, 1875 and she died at age 23 on March 6, 1899.

Princess Kaiulani Statue Lei Draping Ceremony
Every year there is a Princess Kaiulani statue lei-draping ceremony in Waikiki on the October 16 birthday of Princess Kaiulani. The event typical begins with a conch blowing and traditional chant. In the past it has been sponsored by the Honolulu Mayor's Office on Culture and the Arts and the Ohana East Hotel and it is free and open to the public. Waikiki's Princess Kaiulani statue is located in Kaiulani Triangle Park, a small, urban park in across the street from the Ohana East Hotel in Waikiki, at the corner of Kuhio Avenue and Kaiulani Avenue. The statue faces Kuhio Avenue.

    Alii Sunday Honoring Princess Kaiulani
    Every year October the Kawaiahao Church in the historic capitol district of Downtown Honolulu remembers Princess Kaiulani on a Sunday near her October 16 birthday by holding a special Sunday service in her honor. The Kawaiahao Church is located at 957 Punchbowl Street in Honolulu.

    Maui Princess Kaiulani Events

    Maui Princess Kaiulani Festival
    This annual October festival in upcountry Maui celebrates birthday and memory of Hawaii's Princess Kaiulani. The festival typically includes performances and activities honoring the Princess's Hawaiian and Scottish background, including bagpipe performance by the Maui Pipe Band, a shortbread baking contest, top local musicians, Hawaiian games, Scottish Games, a fashion show featuring gowns from the monarchy era, historic and cultural exhibits, vendor booths, food booths, and children's activities. The Maui Princess Kaiulani Festival is presented by the Isle of Maui Pipe Band and sponsored by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the County of Maui.
