2008 Pearl Harbor Day in Hawaii

December 7, 2008 will be the 67th anniversary of the 1941 Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor. Here are some of the 2008 events taking place in Hawaii and other parts of the United States to honor and remember those who died during the attack.

  • Pearl Harbor Day Events in Hawaii

    USS Arizona Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony
    The U.S. National Parks Service and the U.S. Navy will jointly host a memorial ceremony commemorating the 67th Anniversary of the attack at the Kilo Pier, a location about 1/2 mile from the USS Arizona Memorial that has direct views of the memorial The ceremony will take place on December 7, 2008 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the them of this year's event is "Pacific War Memories: The Heroic Response to Pearl Harbor". The keynote speakers will be Doolittle Raider Thomas C. Griffin and U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Robert F. Willard. The ceremony will also feature the Pacific Fleet Band, morning colors, a Hawaiian blessing, a rifle salute by U.S. Marines, wreath observations, and the playing of "taps". A moment of silence will be observed at 7:55 a.m., which was the exact moment the attack began 67 years ago. The DDG0-93 destroyer ship USS Chung-Hoon will render honors to the USS Arizonaf and military aircraft will fly over the memorial in a "missing man" formation.

    Barbers Point Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony
    There will be a Pearl Harbor Day Commemorative Ceremony at the Ewa Marine Corps Air Station (Ewa MCAS) on Saturday, December 6, 2008 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Barber's Point Golf Course Club House and admission is free. For more information call 808-422-2771, extension 124.
