Spend Mother's Day in a Hawaiian Garden
Public gardens and private gardens open to the public
include the Foster Botanical Gardens in Downtown Honolulu
the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden near Kaneohe,
the Dryland Garden inside Koko Crater, the Queen
Liliuokalani Japanese Gardens in Hilo,
the Kahanu National Tropical Botanical Garden on Maui,
three National Tropical Botanical Gardens on Kauai,
and many more.
Treat Your Mother to A Fancy Afternoon Tea
Restaurants, cafes, and resorts in Hawaii serving
afternoon high tea with tiny sandwiches,
tropical fruit, and sweet treats. Some
of the high teas in Hawaii include
champagne as an optional extra.
Tour Doris Duke's Shangri-La Mansion
You might not be able to do this on Mother's Day
itself, but tickets to the Honolulu Academy of Art's
guide tour of Doris Duke's oceanside Kahala
"beach cottage" would be a special treat that almost
any mother would enjoy. These tours
originate at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and a shuttle
van provides transportation to and from Kahala for the
tour. I like to combine this tour with a light lunch at the
Academy's lovely Pavilion Cafe.
Take Your Mother to a Hawaiian Luau
Celebrate Mother's Day at a traditional Hawaiian
luau on the island of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island
of Hawaii.
