2009 Lei Day Events in Hawaii

Hawaii's 82nd Annual Lei Day celebrations will take place on May 1, 2009. On this page you will find information about 2009 Lei day events in Hawaii on May 1, 2009 and May 2, 2009. Includes Lei Day events on the islands of Oahu and Maui.

Oahu Lei Day 2009 Events

2009 Waikiki Lei Day Celebration

The 82nd Annual Waikiki Lei Day Celebration will take place on Friday, May 1, 2009 in Kapiolani Park, on the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. The event will begin at 9:00 am and end at 5:30 pm. There will be music and hula performances all day and all events are free and open to the public. The Makaha Sons, Kapena, the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association, and other Hawaii musicians, singers, and hula halau will perform from 12 noon. Note that the Hawaiian Steel guitar Association performance will not be in the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, it will be in the lei exhibit and hoolaulea area between the bandstand and the Waikiki Shell.
SCHEDULE:
-9:00 am - Royal Hawaiian Band Concert.
-10:00 am to 5:00 pm - Hoolaulea Hawaiian crafts exhibit
-10:15 am - Lei Queen and Court Investiture
-Noon to 5:30 pm - Hula and Hawaiian Music all afternoon.
-12:30 - 5:30 pm - Lei Exhibit
-1:00 - 3:00 pm - Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association plays
-1:00 - 5:00 pm - Tutu's Hale Children’s Activities

Cruz Family Concert
The May 1, 2009 "Live From the Lawn" event at the Hawaii State Art Museum on South Hotel Street in Honolulu is a free concert featuring the Cruz Family, including Ernie Cruz Senior, Ernie Cruz Jr, Guy Cruz, John Cruz, and Tiffany Cruz. There will also be other special guest performers. The event will take place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Maui Lei Day 2009 Events

Brothers Cazimero Lei Day Concert
The annual Maui May Day Concert featuring the Brothers Cazimero will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the Castle Theater at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului.

Fairmont Kea Lani Lei Day Celebration
Lei Day activities at the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea Maui will include displays of flower, feather, and kukui nut lei creations, a royal court procession, and live Hawaiian entertainment. For more information visit the official Web site of the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort.

Kapalua Lei Day Celebration
May 1, 2009 Lei Day activities at Maui's the Kapalua Resort will include lei making workshops, a lei contest, Hawaiian arts and crafts demonstrations, and live hula and Hawaiian music performances. For more information contact the official Web site of the Kapalua Resort.

Big Island Lei Day 2009 Events

Waikoloa Beach Resort Lei Day Celebration
The Lei Day Celebration at the Waikoloa Beach Resort on the west side of Hawaii will include Hawaiian music, hula performances, a lei making contest, a Lei Queen Pagenat, Hawaiian arts and crafts, and other activities. For more information call 808-886-8822.

Kauai Lei Day 2009 Events

Kauai Museum Lei Day Celebration
The 29th Annual Kauai Lei Day and May Day Festival and Ohana Day will take place on the grounds of the Kauai Museum on Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The event will feature live entertainment, a lei contest, a silent auction and food and craft booths.

Lanai Lei Day 2009 Events

There will be a Lei Day celebration on the island of Lanai on Saturday, May 2, 2009 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature live entertainment performed by the students of Lanai High and Elementary School. The event will take place in the gymnasium of the school, which is located in Lanai City. For more information call 808-565-7900.
