January Hawaii Festivals

Information about January Hawaii festivals on several different islands. January festivals in Hawaii include the Chinese New Year Festival, Ipu Cultural Festival, the Molokai Makahiki Festival, the Moanikeala Hulaauana Festival, the Chinese Narcissus Festival, and more. Chinese Narcissus Festival (Oahu)
Features a Narcissus Queen Pageant, usually held in January, and appearances by the royal court throughout the year.

Chinese New Year Festival (Oahu)
Chinese New Year takes place every year in either January or February. Hawaii Chinese New Year celebrations include a Narcissus Festival and Queen Pageant on Oahu and Chinese New Year street festivals, parades and lion dance processions on several islands.

Ipu Cultural Festival (Hawaii Island)
Annual January Big Island festival celebrating the diver culture surrounding the Ipu (aka Hawaiian gourd).

Ka Molokai Makahiki Festival (Molokai)
Annual harvest festival on the island of Molokai that usually takes place in January at the Mitchell Pauole Center in the center of Kaunakakai Town.

Martin Luther King Day Celebration (several islands)
MLK Day events in Hawaii include parades, unity celebrations, and other special events on several islands.

Maui Film Festival First Lights
The Maui Film Festival usually takes place in June but they also screen Academy Award nominated movies at special "First Lights" events in December and January.

Moanikeala Hulaauana Festival
This hula festival at the Polynesian Cultural Center in northeast Oahu was originally a competition for children but today it is an exhibition event featuring both children and adult dancers. The 19th Annual Makahiki Festival too place on January 17, 2009 in the PCC's Pacific Theater.

New Year's Mochitsuki Festival (Oahu)
Annual mochi pounding festival held at Honbushin International Center in Mililani, Central Oahu.

New Year's Ohana Festival (Oahu)
Annual festival held at Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii in Honolulu.
