Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Hawaii

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday marking the victory of Mexico's army over French invaders in the Battle of Puebla in 1861. Here is information about Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Hawaii.

Oahu Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Honolulu Cinco de Mayo Street Festival
In 2009 there will be a Cinco de Mayo Festival in Downtown Honolulu on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Nuuanu Avenue and Hotel Street. Hotel Street will be closed to auto traffic from Smith Street to Bethel Street but Nuuanu Avenue will remain open. The event will feature Mexican and Hispanic music, dancing, and food and the event is sponsored by the Arts District Merchants Association and the Hispanic Center of Hawaii. The 2009 event is being produced by Tim Bostock Productions. For more information about the 2009 Honolulu Cinco de Mayo Festival call (808-521-9699). Note that in past years this event has sometimes been sponsored by Murphy's Bar and Grill.

Mexican Restaurants on Oahu
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo by eating at one of these Mexican restaurant on the island of Oahu. If you love Mexican food, you will want to try all of these Hawaii Mexican restaurants at one time or another. I like many of them, but my personal favorite - if I am evaluating food over atmosphere - is the tiny fast food cafe in Waikiki's International Marketplace.

The restaurants at the Aloha Tower Marketplace often The Aloha Tower Marketplace Shopping Center is their 4th annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration beginning at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, May 5, 2007. There will be live entertainment on four different stages, salsa lessons, and a Chihuahua fashion show. Restaurants in the marketplace will feature Mexican food and Mexican beer specials all evening. Admission is Free

Ravenchase Cinco de Mayo Hunt and Pub Crawl
On Saturday, May 5, 2007 Ravenchase Adventures is producing a challenging, one-of-a-kind, pub crawl, hunt, and puzzle game. Teams will compete to decipher five clues that will lead players to five different Honolulu pubs including the final destination.

Big Island Cinco de Mayo Celebrations

Waikoloa Cinco de Mayo Splash
This annual event in Anaehoomalu Bay features a half mile or one mile open water swim for adults and a 400 meter swim for children 12 and under. An award ceremony and Mexican fiesta party will follow the event. The Hilton Waikoloa Village Hotel is also featuring a Cinco de Mayo dinner buffet in their Palm Terrace Restaurant.
