Prince Kuhio Day in Hawaii

Prince Kuhio Day is an official State of Hawaii holiday and it honors Hawaiian Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi. It takes place every year on March 26, the birthday of the prince. Prince Kuhio was born on March 26, 1871 and he died on January 7, 1922. On this page you will find information about observing Prince Kuhio Day celebrations on the islands of Oahu and Kauai.

Prince Kuhio Alii Sunday (Oahu)
Every year, on a Sunday close to the March 26 birthday of Hawaii's Prince Kuhio, there is a special Sunday service at the historic Kawaiahao Church in Downtown Honolulu, honoring the king's memory.

Oahu Prince Kuhio Day Events
Prince Kuhio Day celebrations that typically take place on the island of Oahu include an early morning lei draping ceremony at the Prince Kuhio Statue in Waikiki followed by a "Celebration of Life" event in his honor at the Royal Mausoleum. Afternoon and evening activities include a Prince Kuhio Hoolaulea in Kapiolani Park and a late afternoon parade down Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki, and an evening Prince Kuhio Moonlight Concert in Kapiolani Park.

Kuhio Day Celebration at the Prince Kuhio Hotel
Ann all day celebration featuring live music, hula, Hawaiian games, local crafters and artisans, a hula workshop and other activities. For more information call 808-922-0811.

Kauai Prince Kuhio Day Events
Prince Kuhio was born in the Koloa area of Kauai, In 2009 some of those events took place at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and at Prince Kuhio Park. For more information call 808-240-6369.
