Publisher's Book Description

Life at a B&B is often so alluring that many guests fantasize about retiring in paradise and running one of their own. Author Gabriela Taylor does not entirely dispel this image, for she built and ran a B&B for twelve years on the island of Kaua‘i. As she peers behind the scenes into the broom closet and the bedroom, she offers the truth about what it takes to operate an inn with the clarity and wit that only come with experience. Portraying her own struggles to keep the business afloat even after the destruction wrought by Hurricane Iniki, Taylor also shares the rewards gained and the lessons learned.

The fulfillment of Taylor’s dream, the Keapana Center, has played host to a wide array of intriguing characters: psychics, nudists, musicians, a BBC film crew, nature lovers, and even a woman who believed she was Elvis’s mother. As she relates her colorful tales, from trapping dozens of wild chickens that keep her guests awake to the allure of the lush vegetation and waterfalls that grace the beautiful island, Taylor reveals her deep love for Kaua‘i.

Author Gabriela Taylor served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Brazil before beginning a career as a college instructor. She lives on the island of Kaua‘i, where she designed and built the Keapana Center Bed and Breakfast.
