Tourist Trains in Hawaii

Information about train rides and tourist trains in Hawaii. Includes two plantationn-focused train rides on Kauai, one on Maui Island, and two on the island of Oahu.

Kauai Island Train Tours

Kauai Plantation Railway at Kilohana
Offers a train ride on a 2.5 mile section of the Kauai Railroad right-of-way. The train passes by a tropical forest, plantation era homes, and a working fruit and vegetable farm known as the Kilohana Plantation. Three different tours are available: (1) The 40-minute train-ride-only tour departs several times a day. (2) The four hour plantation tour includes a train ride, hiking, and lunch. (3) An evening luau feast that includes a train ride. The Kilohana Plantation and the its train ride are located in Puhi, just east of Lihue Town and Kauai's main airport.

Grove Farm Train Rides
The Grove Farm on Kauai has a collection of antique train engines and they offer rides to visitors once a month.

Maui Island Train Tour

Sugar Cane Train
Visitors to the island of Maui can take a six mile ride on the Lahaina, Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad. The railroad offers a steam engine train ride from the Kaanapali Beach area to the old whaling town of Lahaina.

Oahu Island Train Tours

Oahu Railway Society Train
Visitors to the island of Oahu can take a six mile, 90-minute, narrated train ride on a stretch of the former Oahu Railway and Land Company track that has been designated both state and national historic sites. Pineapple Express Train Tour
The Dole Plantation visitor attraction in the Central Oahu town of Wahiawa offers a 2-mile train ride through its property in open-air cars pulled by a diesel engine. The ride is about 20 minutes long and it includes narration describing the Dole Plantation and its history.
