Dragon Boat Racing in Hawaii

Articles and information about the annual Hawaii Dragon Boat Festival on Oahu, the Hawaii Dragon Boat Association, and some general information about the sport of dragon boat racing.

Hawaii Dragon Boat Festival
Every year since 1996 there has been a two day Dragon Boat Festival in Honolulu's Ala Moana Park. The event has been held in July or August most years but it was moved to March in 2007.

About Dragon Boat Racing
Teams consist of 16 to 18 paddlers, a helmsman, a flag catcher, and a drummer. The race course a the Hawaii Dragon Boat Festival consists of three straight lanes, 600 meters long. Boats race to the finish line where the flag catcher retrieves a flag and carries it to the finish line.
